Did Marshal Law take its name from a person?

It's not "marshal" law, it's "martial law". "Martial" comes from the name of the Greek God of War, Mars, and just means "having to do with combat and/or the military".

So in a sense it does take its name from a "person", except he wasn't a real person, he was an imaginary Greek god.
