Step one: get your high school diploma or GED
Step two: complete at least three years of undergraduate (usually four), including all the pre-requisite classes for the vet school(s) of your choice
Step three: while working on Step two, accumulate at least 500 hours of shadowing or working for a veterinarian, gain as many hours working with a variety of species of animals as you can and find 2-3 veterinarians who think highly enough of you and know you well enough to write a good recommendation for you
Step four: take the GRE or MCAT
Step five: apply to the vet school of your choice through VMCAS
Step six: complete four years of study at a vet school
Step seven: pass the National Veterinary Medical Licensing Exam (NAVLE)
Step eight: pass the State vet board exam for the state you want to practice in and become licensed
