What is the difference between religious and secular celebrations?

Religious celebrations tend to be related to a particular faith tradition and usually celebrate events in the history of that religion, such as the founder's birth, or when a certain miracle occurred. For example, Easter is a religious celebration for Christians, who believe it is the day when Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven. Passover is a religious celebration for Jews, who believe it commemorates the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, where they had been slaves to Pharaoh, but were now given their freedom by God. Secular celebrations are not related to religion. They tend to be tied to the history of a country, and they celebrate key events in that history-- such as America's Independence Day on July 4th; or Founder's Day in Ghana (commemorating Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president).
