Samuel Paynter (born August 24, 1768 in Sussex County, Delaware; died October 2, 1845 in Lewes, Delaware) succeeded Charles Thomas as the twenty-sixth Governor of Delaware, serving between January 20, 1824 and January 16, 1827.

Following the end of Paynter's term as Governor of Delaware, Charles Polk Jr. (born November 15, 1788 in Bridgeville, Delaware; died October 27, 1857 in Milford, Delaware) became the twenty-seventh Governor of Delaware, serving between January 16, 1827 and January 19, 1830.
