How does one go about becoming a gardener?

Depends what country you're in, and what kind of gardener you want to be. If you're young you can often get trained on the job. In Australia there are TAFEs - government run technical colleges - where you can get certificates in horticulture. There is also the option of applying for a traineeship as well.
