I have heard that you can use a candle to warm the button up. Then you take a small screw driver or thin blade. You tap on the screw driver or thin blade and the button will come off. Just be aware that you risk breaking the windshield so make sure you have glass coverage on your car insurance before you attempt this.

Sometimes the rear view button gets glued upside down. The glass people tell me to simply purchase another button and glue it to the old button correctly. The rear view mirror won't know the difference.

Improving on my answer--- I actually heated up a button very carefully with a small butane torch and it came off the glass. According to other sources, the glue breaks down above 800 degrees Fahrenheit. I used a small flame and concentrated it on the button and NOT on the glass. It works, but you have to use caution.

I also had this problem w/ my '07 F-150. I installed a camper and could no longer see out of the interior mirror, making it useless. So to remove it and improve my field of vision

I got some "goof off" putting a little of it on the top of the button and letting it soak in.

then using an old guitar string, I worked the string behind the button and "sawed" until

came off. Afterward you can remove the rest w/a razor blade. P.S. use the biggest string you can without it binding up as the larger strings are wound and act more like

saws than the very small "straight" strings. and take your time, it is a slow process but will not break, scratch, or mark your windshield if done right.
