What is the penalty for a foul in snooker?

A foul on the white, red, yellow, green or brown awards 4 points to your opponent, a foul on the blue, pink or black awards 5, 6 or 7 points respectively, play then passes to your opponent unless the ref calls a miss then the white is reset and you try again.
