Stamford Raffles worked for the British East India Company, where he served in various capacities, including as the Lieutenant Governor of
Java. He is best known for founding Singapore in 1819 and played a significant role in expanding British influence in Southeast Asia. Raffles was also involved in the promotion of trade and the establishment of British colonial rule in the region.
