During World War 1 what was the royal family's surname?

Answer: With the marriage of Victoria to the German prince, Albert, the name of the British royal family became Saxe-Coburg Gotha. Due to anti-German feeling during the First World War, the family name was changed, by royal proclamation, to that of Windsor in 1917.
