This might work in some states or countries outside the U.S., but in the United States the default emergency number is 9-1-1. The Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) that receives your call will route it to the local highway patrol if their assistance is warranted.

Dialing 112 on any GSM mobile phone will get you the emergency number, even in the United States.
