What are cell phone upgrades?

A cell phone upgrade is the act of purchasing a new cell phone and a new contract (most contracts last two years) after you are finished with your old contract. You do not have to upgrade right when your contract ends; your bills will follow a temporary contract-free pattern until you upgrade. You can also switch to another carrier once your old contract is over rather than upgrading and you will not receive an early termination fee from your first carrier.
