well Apple Inc. said that the "I" in Imac stood for internet and berfore there was "I" there was some other Word in front of stuff like that but the "I" really caught on and then well viola oh and bye the way here are a list of things that start with "I" from Apple "Imac" "iPod" "iphone "Ilife" "Iwork" "Idontknowtherest" Originally, when the iMac was introduced, the i stood for internet and signified the ease in which one could connect to the internet. Now, it is just kind of "their thing" and really doesn't hold any significance other than indicating that it is likely an Apple product.
