There were no colonies when the Mayflower sailed, for the New world.
The Mayflower left England on August 15, 1620, with another ship, the Speedwell. After turning back twice because of leaks on the Speedwell, the Mayflower sailed alone with 102 passengers. Of course, they would have their share of good days and bad when it came to the weather.
Also, it got to the point where food and water was getting low, and some would get sick, and there were some on the trip who would die, in search of a better way of life.
The ship reached Cape Cod on November 21, 1620, off of Provincetown Harbor. It reached the present site of Plymouth, Massachusetts, on December 26, 1620.
