What are cant strips on a tile roof?

A three-sided piece of wood, or other material , one angle of which is square, used under the roofing on a flat roof where the horizontal surface abuts a vertical wall or parapet. The sloped transition facilitates roofing and waterproofing. The need of cant strip is to prevent the bitumen layers from braking on rough corners.
