Yes, DBS checks (CRB checks were replaced by DBS checks in 2012) will show spent convictions and cautions unless those convictions or cautions are 'protected'.
A conviction is protected if:
- the offence is not on the 'DBS list of offences that will never be filtered from a criminal record check' (available on the DBS website), and
- it has been more than 11 years since the conviction (or 5.5 years if under 18 at time of conviction), and
- the individual has no other conviction offences, and
- the conviction did not result in a custodial sentence.
If the individual has more than one conviction offence, every conviction will show up on a DBS check, regardless of the offence type or the amount of time that has passed.
Cautions (including reprimands and final warnings) are protected if:
- the offence is not on the 'DBS list of offences that will never be filtered from a criminal record check' (available on the DBS website), and
- it has been more than 6 years since the time of caution (or 2 years if the individual was under 18 the time of caution)
