William Calley was in command of ''Charlie company'' which was the group of soldiers which did the killing. Their victims were more than 200 civilians - mostly women and their children or grandchildren. They soldiers arrived at around 6:00am and the orgy of killing went on for hours....the soldiers even took a break for lunch.
There was an attempt to cover the matter up but when that failed Calley was court marshalled, found guilty but released early after a media fest of sympathy...not for the dead, but for their killers.
