Why are the canary islands spanish?

The Canary Islands became part of the Spanish Kingdom in the 15th century after the Spanish conquest. The islands were originally inhabited by the Guanches people before the arrival of the Spanish. Today, the Canary Islands are an autonomous community of Spain.
