What is the first step in the scientific method that scientist take when they begin their work?

Well it all kind of depends on what kind of scientists you want to become... but first you start by studying whatever you want to study so say you were an animal scientists you find an animal like uh... spider you could study that animal & find out it's mysterieslike what's the most poisinous spider?? That answer would be a black widow.
