Sea lions have a life cycle that begins with gestation lasting about 11 months, after which a pup is born on land or ice. The mother nurses the pup for several months, teaching it essential survival skills. As they grow, pups learn to swim and hunt, eventually becoming independent around 6-12 months old. Sea lions can live for 16-20 years in the wild, with females typically reaching maturity at around 3-4 years and males at 4-5 years.
