Are cockroaches pests

Not always. The Word "vermin" refers to animal species that are pests or nuisances; particularly those that can spread disease. Some species of cockroaches are certainly pests, such the German, American and Brown-banded. These species will infest homes, and may be very difficult to eradicate. Other species are not pests; they live outside and do not infest homes.
