What name for people sleep on the street?

Often people who live on the streets will use the term "homeless" to themselves, particularly if they have been in and out of institutions that use that term explicitly. "Hobo" is a more antiquated term meant for communities of individuals who travel frequently and make money by begging, though it is still used on occasion. Often the terms "on the streets", "between jobs", or "living outdoors" are used. I have even heard people call it "urban camping."

Most frequently though, homeless people refer to themselves and their friends by their first names, just like the rest of us do. They may see themselves as disadvantaged, or they may have never known any other way of life.
