How many sultanates are there in the world today?

As of now, there are only a few sultanates in the world, with the most notable being Brunei, Oman, and parts of Malaysia, such as the state of Johor. Additionally, there are several smaller sultanates with limited recognition or influence, often existing within larger nations. The concept of a sultanate is primarily historical, and most nations have transitioned to modern forms of governance. As such, the number of recognized sultanates today is quite limited.
