How do you reset the brake pad wear warning light after pads have been replaced on a VW Passat 1.9 TDI?

Disconnecting the battery may reset the brake pad worn sensor light on a 2002 VW Beetle. Another thing to check is the harness, if it is not plugged in after installing brake pads the sensor light will go on.
