European colonization affected Indigenous children many ways. Early typical effects were increased poverty and warfare. Later, colonization often featured efforts to inculcate (force someone to believe) children with European cultural ideals. Missionaries and schools often subjected children to forced conversion to Christianity and Eurocentric education that proclaimed Europeans as superior and dismissed their own Indigenous cultures as savage and inferior.
