Before Thomas Jefferson was President, he ran plantations, practiced law, represented Albemarle County in the Virginia House of Burgesses, served as a delegate to the Second Continental Congress, was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, was Governor of Virginia, was a minister to France, and was the Secretary of State and the Vice President. He also helped draft the Declaration of Independence before his presidency.
