Who lost alsace and Loraine?

Alsace and Lorraine were lost by France to Germany following the Franco-Prussian War, which concluded in 1871. The territories were returned to France after World War I with the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. However, they were again annexed by Germany during World War II, before being returned to France after the war ended in 1945.
