How do you make Cub Scout floodles?

In our district (and I think Council) Floodles are used at Day Camp as a recognition (unlike Girl Scout Swaps which are traded between girls) and each pack makes them. You can give them to another pack who shows spirit, has a neat unit home, or is nice to you in some way. You also give them to the staff as a thank you after each activity.

Staff gives them to packs who are the most well behaved and polite. The staff also has specific floodles for things like clean unit home, etc.

Floodles are anything you can put your pack number on. They have to be able to be attached, usually with a string or safety pin. Packs attach them to a flag, staff attach them to a cord which can be worn around the neck or hung up at their station.

You can get something ready made, like a cheap plastic keychain (a plastic compass is a good example) and just write your pack number on it. You can be very creative and make something out of clay, beads, wood, etc. Paint it, write your pack number, etc. You can create something out of clip art, print it off and laminate it. The possibilities are endless.

Some things to consider: Do NOT use any food, as it will attract critters. Also, although it never rains at Day Camp, it does often mist heavily so things that will hold up to a bit (or a lot!) of moisture are best. If you use water soluble paint, you might want to seal it somehow, and air dry clays are sometimes softened in wet weather.

If you are familiar with Girl Scout Swaps, you know they are generally small, around the size of a half dollar or smaller... Floodles are more the size of a playing card.

Beyond that, anything goes! Have fun, but don't stress: Keep it Simple, Make it Fun!
