Well, not quite. The geologic evidence suggests that the area of Central Asia where the Indian plate collided with the Asian plate to create the Himalayas, Pamir, Kun Lun, and Karakoram mountain chains is hundreds of millions of years old. Even so, it is the YOUNGEST area of mountain-building on the planet. "Young" mountains are high, steep, and snowy, whereas "old" mountains like the Appalachians in the eastern US, are quite a bit older, and have been worn down by wind and water erosion.
