Who invented maracas?

It is believed that the original maracas were invented by the Tainos who were the native Indians of Puerto Rico during the 16th and 17th centuries. The original model of the instrument was made from fruit and had a round shape.

No one person was solely responsible for this invention. In Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Latin America, they are considered to be a native instrument.
