Reasons for digitizing information can involve improvements in the quality and longevity of the data, as well as speed and ease of retrieval and manipulation.

Digital data, in most cases, will remain in better condition for longer, when compared with analogue data. However, the eventual degradation of digital data will be less predictable and more difficult to reverse.

When dealing with photos or sounds, editing and arranging can be much easier when using a computer, because of the speed at which the computer can do the processing, and the digital tools and effects that can be used.

There is still a place for analogue storage on paper etc at the moment, but digitization and digital storage is becoming more common all the time.
