Benefit of modern communication to students?

If you refer to modern communication as use of "cellphones (sms, mms) or online communication devices like messengers, emails, online conferences, VoIP, or simply the use of internet to communicate through webpages, I think it benefits me (personally) a lot.

There was one time that we have to make research. With the use of modern communication, we are able to finish our research only by using Yahoo Messenger through file sharing and of course chat.

It is also beneficial to students because researching is much much easier. Browse online. But I find this method has a disadvantage. Some websites are not credible enough, you don't even know whether they are telling the truth and the information they gave is valid. Just look for those with citations.
