Why does your dodge Dakota 1997 keep on cutting out?

my 94' did this too. Travel about 15 minutes, then instantly, cut off. Usually after 20 minutes it would restart (summer & winter temps). One shop replaced the fuel pump for $400., then with more troubles, a chip at the base of the distributor. I finally figured that a computer component would overheat, so put in new one. From that moment on, 1-1/2 years later, the trouble never came back! Best $150. I ever spent.
