Why would an object change color when it is given a fresh coat of paint?

Like everything, paint looks darker while its wet. Its a bit like fabric, hair and pretty much everything else. As it dries it keeps getting lighter. Once the room is painted and dried, the paint continues to fade because of the light bleaching the colour.
