The leaders of the original thirteen colonies were William Bradford for the Massachusetts/Plymouth area, John Winthrop for Boston, Roger Williams for Rhode Island, Thomas Hooker for Connecticut, and John Wheelwright for New Hampshire. New York had two leaders, Peter Minuit for the Dutch and Duke of York for the English. New Jersey also had two, there Lord Berkeley and Sir Carteret led together. Peter Minuit for Delaware William Penn for Pennsylvania, John Smith for Virginia, George Calvert for Maryland and James Oglethorpe for Georgia. North and South Carolina each had a group of eight proprietors.
