Why are children the main target of abuse?

Unfortunately they are innocent. They are not molded yet to know right from wrong. So anything that an adult teaches them they think it is normal and okay. So they accept the abuse.

Sometimes it is because they are little and they scare easy because here is this big adult person beating on them, they are fragile and they are afraid, and so they will not speak out if it is someone that they love mom and dad beating or abusing them in some way. They are afraid to lose mommy or daddy and being left alone with what they think will be no one to love them.

Children are unfortunately, innocent victims.

And this is why they are the main target of abuse.
