President Madison's chief reason for going to war in 1812 was to?

Britain continually attacked American ships, and American seamen. In particular, they would stop US ships and forcibly remove any crew members that they thought had been in the British navy. They were putting restrictions on American trade routes, etc.

Another cause was the fact that the British still kept troops in the Northwest US and contributed to Indian uprising by supplying arms and otherwise offering help.

This war was considered the "second war of independence".
