How can you tell your mom that you have a boyfriend?

Understand her fears.

She doesn't want you hurt, taken advantage of, drawn into bad behaviours, diseased or prematurely a parent.

You know it'll be fine, but she doesn't. You have to convince her that she can trust you.

She may also be racist, sexist, culturalist and homophobic and not want you to date one or more of blacks, whites, jews, catholics, adults or people of the same sex. If you have this situation theres not much you can do.

So reassure her.

First, don't call it a date. Its called going to X's house, or movies or to eat out with X. Keep it very casual, cool, even boring. Its normal. Yawn!!

Secondly try to do it in a gang. Even a very small gang of 4 will do.

Thirdly, for the first time, you set an absurdly early coming home time. You can raise the limit as she gets used to it. Train her to trust you.

Fourth, dress down. Keep it cool. Don't overdo it. Smart, but modest. Dressing like a prostitute/pimp is going to set every mothers alarm bells ringing.

Fifth, underplay stuff, but don't ever lie. Seriously!

The other sneaky tactic is to talk to your aunts or uncles and find out what your mother was up to when she was your age. They'll be perfectly happy to rat on her. She had dates too - it may come in handy as a bargaining tool
