Were did the story take place in the book called evermore by Alyson noel?

Here is the synopsis. If you would like more details, let me know and I will try to remember.

A girl named Ever got in a car accident, and her entire family dies (except for her, obviously). After this accident, Ever starts being able to see auras around people. (In the book, there is a guide to the auras. Red means passion, etc...) Ever also discovers that she can hear people's thoughts. This makes it difficult to not cheat on tests. She tries to drown this all out with her iPod.

One day a boy named Damen shows up at school. She wouldn't care, except for one weird thing- he doesn't have an aura. Soon, she notices other strange things about him, such as that strange red juice he is always drinking.

Ever soon discovers that Damen is not a vampire as she originally suspected, but an immortal who must drink a red elixir to stay immortal.
