How compound eyes function?

"Compound eyes" are made up of lots of little eyes, each with its cornea, lens, and photoreceptor cells for distinguishing brightness and colour. They give the insect a wide field of view and, although they are extremely poor at picking out detail like a human's eyes can, they are Excellent at detecting movement.

There are two types of compoundeye;

* Ones that form apposition images

* and ones that form superposition images.

Apposition favours sharpness and sacrifices brightness, while superposition favours brightness, but sacrifices sharpness.
