What are the first steps you should take to take care of your lawn?

Sometimes it's good to over turn your grass and lay composted manure and grass seed down, then lay wooden sticks going in rows across your lawn with string connected to wooden sticks, then place tin foil on the string to keep the birds from eating the seeds. Water the lawn, but not too much, and you should get pretty green in no time.
