Why do sprite and tums explode?

Sprite and Tums can create an explosive reaction due to the rapid release of carbon dioxide gas when the two are mixed. Sprite is carbonated, containing dissolved CO2, while Tums contains calcium carbonate, which reacts with acids in the soda to produce more CO2.
