Why is Shiloh one of the most famous battels fought during the civil war?

It was the biggest battle ever fought in America up to that time.

It was the first major Union victory.

The Confederate commander killed there (Sidney Johnston) was regarded as the best General in the South.

Although Grant was criticised for his conduct on the first day, this battle spelt the end for Confederate power in Western Tennessee.

Shiloh was where Grant and Sherman began their successful partnership.
