What do you think of Mr Brocklehurst's philosophy of education in this chapter?

In simple terms, Mr Brocklehurst believes that "spare the rod, and spoil the child." As quoted in Charlotte Bronte's text Jane Eyre, my plan in bringing up these girls is, not to accustom them to habits of luxury and indulgence, but to render them hardy, patient, self-denying.
