Check factories and businesses to see how they dispose of their waste. It may be that they are pumping water into a river. How clean is the water?
Lobby local and state politicians and ask them questions about industrial pollution.
Do polluting businesses make donations to these politicians? Why do they do that?
Does your local fast food restaurant recycle plastic and aluminium bottles and cans? Or do they just throw everything together that ends up in landfill. Ask them what is their policy on recycling. You may find that an online petition on www.care2.com will encourage them to improve.
