What do the police do when you are threatened by an inmate?

If they person doing the threatening is an inmate (as stated in the question), then there isn't much of an imminent threat.

They may document it if it is part of an ongoing investigation on the individual and tell you to contact them if the person approaches you after they have been released. Other than that there isn't much they can do.
