How many days of competition are there in the Olympic games?

The 2008 Games in Beijing will have the opening ceremony on August 8 and the closing ceremony on August 24. There are no events scheduled on the day of the opening ceremony, however, qualification rounds in football are scheduled for the 6th and 7th. That would make 18 days with event competition at the 2008 Games.
