Why are there so many wasps in the UK this year?

Probably because this year (2009) we have had patterns of weather which suited wasps better. We also probably notice them more this year because in 2007 and 2008 we had two consecutive cold and wet summers which were not conducive to insects such as bees and wasps building up big colonies.
