A short story on cleanliness is next to godliness?

It was a quote from the movie "Ever After". Danielle's stepmother is talking to her about her own childhood and mentions how her mother believed that 'cleanliness is next to godliness'. She also says that her mother made her wash her face 15 times a day but it never seemed to be clean enough, by the mother's standards.
