Why are apartments called apartments if they are close together?

Because one renter's living quarters are separate, or apart from, the next renter's living quarters.

They would be far away from each other if only the Word "apart" was apart from "ments" hahhaa. No for real, apart is not a suffix so that means that if you see it in a Word it doesn't mean all the time that the Word is apart from "meaning"

And how is it that we Sit on the Stands I don't know if this is a serious question or not, BUT I'm going to say it's because it's like one house, but it's MEANT to be split APART, and so it's divided and then they are called APARTMENTS! Yay!
