1997 Grand Prix won't start when car is warm acts like not getting gas but you can hear fuel pump working starts fine when car is cooled off.?

i work in a steel mill as a mechanic for the vehicles, so i run into an identical problem all of the time. you should first try to replace the in-line fuel filter and see if it clears your problem up. if it doesn't work its most likely the "sock" filter on your in-tank fuel pump. while replacing this filte make sure to clean ALL debris out of the tank.

when i first ran into this problem it took me forever to figure it out. what is actually happening is that the long the vehicle runs the more trash and debris that gets stuck on the filter, and eventually clogs it up. which is generally after the motor gets heated up. if you shut it off for awhile and let it sit, all the dirt will eventually settle and fall off the filter.

this isn't the guaranteed problem but its got a real chance at being it. ohh, another thing i noticed (which may help you to determine if this is the problem) is that it progressively got worse. it seemed like 10 minutes or so after i started the motor that it would slowly start to lose power, not all at once.
